US.Captain William H. Hooper, Company Commander L Company,
314th Inf.Regt., 79th Inf.Div. (foreground left, carrying carbine) leads
a column of German POW's with officers at its head guarded by his
men up the Rue Louis Lansonneur, Cherbourg - Paris Road.
They are heading south towards POW cages created in the Montagne
du Roule area. 26-28th June 1944
Captain Hooper was KIA on the 5th July 1944 some 30 to 40 kms
distance away, in the La Haye-du-Puits area.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and is buried in the US Cemetery
at Colleville-sur-Mer in Normandy.
